Understanding "Tunnel vision"
Many children with vision related learning difficulties have a reduced ability to "see" in their periphery, sometimes called "tunnel vision". Freud labeled these children as malingerers or suffering hysteria!" which are totally inappropriate terms for this condition. Following the research by optometrist John Streff on children with these type of problems at the Gessel Institute, many children are now identified with the condition known as "Streff" syndrome. This problem causes many vision problems leading to learning difficulties such as dyslexia and ADHD. This problem affects 1 in 4 children, but these problems are rarely tested during routine eye exams at "high street optometrists"!
